SAILING EXPERIENCE 

All about the experience

The Sailing Experience is a great way for participants to find out just how fun, safe, accessible and affordable sailing is. This experience is delivered by qualified Yachting Australia Keelboat Instructors with the emphasis on hands-on sailing and having lots of fun.

An experience at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club's Try Sailing evening consists of a safety briefing and quick sailing "101" at the waters edge. It's then sails up to relish the freedom of sailing. Upon the return to the dock, the instructor invites participants to the Member's Bar for a complimentary drink and debrief of the day.

People of all backgrounds, ages and abilities are welcome to participate. Partners, friends, work colleagues and families can participate together, maximum of 3.  KEELBOAT COURSES

 Our Keelboat courses provide a fun and accessible entry into sailing and gives participants further opportunity to improve and develop sailing skills and techniques.

The courses will equip you with the essentials required to safely sail a small boat without the fear of capsizing or getting wet! As your skills progress, you will also develop an understanding of each person's role and how teamwork plays a major part of being an effective crew. There is a maximum of 3 people for each course.

Areas covered

Basic sailing terminology and rules, basic knots, tacking and gybing, man overboard recovery.

DINGHY COURSES

We run regular Saturday morning sessions where you can learn the fundamentals of sailing in a fun and safe environment. RGYC Dinghies are a small 2 person boat that are exciting and wet.

Sailing terminology, boat launch and recovery, capsize recovery in shallow & deep water,
rigging of the boat, sail a triangular course, basic sailing rules and theory.
