The RGYC Sailing Academy is seeking Assistant Instructors, Instructors and Coaches in all Australian Sailing programs, including Dinghy, Keelboat and Powerboats.

Sailing Operations Coordinator

Job Summary

Location: Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Geelong, Victoria 

The Royal Geelong Yacht Club is expanding its team once again, we are seeking a Sailing Operations Coordinator to join our growing team.  The Sailing Operations Coordinator at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) is a vital role responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of all sailing programs and activities. This position involves meticulous planning, resource allocation, and execution of sailing events to the highest standards. Working closely with the Sailing Manager and Sailing Administrator, the Coordinator ensures seamless operations, adapts to seasonal demands, and aligns with the Club’s strategic goals. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate the delivery of all RGYC sailing programs and activities, including resource allocation and event planning along with Volunteer management.  
  • Assist in developing and implementing the annual sailing program and sailing marketing and communications plan. 
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Sailing regulations and provide guidance to instructors and coaches. 
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance of sailing assets and coordinate external maintenance providers. 
  • Collaborate with the Sailing Manager, Sailing Administrator, and volunteers to ensure seamless operations. 
  • Communicate effectively within the Sailing department and collaborate on rosters and event planning. 

Key Selection Criteria: 

  • Comprehensive experience with sailing and powerboats. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Marine License and a valid Working with Children Check. 
  • Proven experience in a club or sporting organization. 

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Australian Sailing Dinghy, Powerboat, Keelboat Instructor, or Senior Instructor qualifications. 
  • Australian Sailing Coach qualifications. 
  • Australian Sailing Race Officer qualifications.

Finance Manager

Overview of Role: The Finance Manager holds a pivotal position within the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC), responsible for the seamless operation of the Finance function and the implementation of strategic directives provided by the General Manager and RGYC Board. This role involves devising and executing systems, policies, and procedures to enhance financial monitoring, accountability, and growth across RGYC. Additionally, the Finance Manager oversees the allocation of financial resources, engages in budget planning, and provides crucial financial advice to guide optimal business decisions for the organisation.

Reporting to: General Manager

Reporting Staff: Accounts Assistant and Administration Team

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in commerce, business, or accounting.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a senior financial accounting role.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including integrated financial systems, databases, spreadsheets, and personal application software.
  • Knowledge of applicable Acts, Regulations, and Australian Accounting Standards.

Job/Task Profile:

  • Collecting, interpreting, and reviewing financial information.
  • Predicting future financial trends and advising management on potential impacts.
  • Producing financial reports related to budgets, account payables, account receivables, expenses, etc.
  • Reviewing, monitoring, and managing budgets.
  • Developing strategies to minimize financial risk.
  • Preparation of annual accounts for audit and statutory reporting.
  • Monitoring day-to-day financial operations such as payroll, invoicing, and transactions.
  • Completing BAS, PAYG, and other statutory compliance requirements.
  • Providing financial and analytical support to the General Manager.
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring financial systems, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Building collaborative relationships with key stakeholders for effective communication and issue resolution.
  • Overseeing IT management and liaising with external providers.
  • Managing human resource management processes, practices, and systems to ensure compliance.

Key Selection Criteria (Skills and Competencies):

Essential:

  • Analytical mindset combined with the ability to undertake a hands-on role.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the capacity to develop robust working relationships.
  • Commercial and business acumen.
  • Attention to detail and a penchant for delving deeper into data.
  • Ability to adhere to time constraints.
  • Experience managing annual audits and preparing financial statements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing accounting, tax, and compliance requirements for small-to-medium organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of collaborative work and influencing across stakeholder groups.
  • Self-starter with the capability to work autonomously.

Hours of Work:

  • Normal working hours based on a 38-hour week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Some evening and weekend work required to support Monthly Financial Committee Meetings, Major Events (2-3 per year), and Membership General Meetings (2 per year).

Salary, Superannuation, and Entitlements:

  • Statutory superannuation paid into the fund of choice.
  • Four weeks of annual leave pro-rata.
  • Personal leave and other entitlements in accordance with the relevant Award and conditions.
