The Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) wish the Australian Sailing Team the best of luck at the Tokyo Olympics, which officially opens this evening.
RGYC played a key role in the road to the Olympics, hosting the last 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships (and Olympic qualifying event) in February 2020, just before the pandemic hit.
RGYC was home to the Sailors for over a month, as they raced on Corio Bay to secure their spots on their respective country’s Olympic team.
The gold medal winners from our event go into this Olympics as medal favourites.
We particularly wish well the Victorian Sailors from this event who train across the bay at Sorrento – 49er Sailors Sam and Will Phillips, and 49erFX Sailor Tess Lloyd.
Be sure to tune in to cheer on our Aussie Sailors – it will be a great spectacle.
