A pretty short blog today. The penultimate days sailing was a bit of a fizzer!

Unusually hot conditions are making the local conditions very frustrating for race management and competitors. Yesterday as the temperature soared into the 30’s, the sailors were held ashore. We eventually got out on the water in the afternoon and sailing.

A large windshift occurred which aborted the first start attempt while in sequence. A second attempt was more fruitful and a race got underway.

The sailing was ok but the light sou’wester faded as the seabreeze tried to establish itself in the hot conditions. This led to a classic shutdown and the race was abandoned 2/3rds of the way through. A shame as Arch Ibbot and James Gough were continuing their fine form after winning the previous race, they were in 4th place with Peter Allen/Ash Rawstron and Hugo Allison/Grace Hooper close behind. But for others it was a blessing.

We had an unfortunate incident on the Lay Day with Ollie Grieve having a bike crash and ensuing night in hospital. Happy to report the he is out and all good. It is an oft quoted line by us junior sailor coaches that most sailing injuries occur in the boat park. Thanks to Alyssa McConaghy for stepping in to help Emma Kelly on “Sparkle” in his absence.

The last day looks like a repeat of yesterday, but fingers crossed we will get some sailing in!

Thanks again for all the support, it cheers everyone no end.
