Off The Beach Sailing

The Off The Beach (OTB) section of RGYC has contributed significantly to the history and future plans of our club. With easy access to the flat water race course of Corio Bay, our year round racing and training program suits a wide variety of sailors.

OTB is run by a group of volunteers, parents and is supported by the staff and facilities of the Royal Geelong Yacht Club. OTB offers a safe and active environment for juniors, youth and adults to learn sailing in a variety of boats, and progress through to more advanced racing.

Throughout the Summer Season (October – April) there is junior, youth and mixed classes aggregate racing every Saturday. Winter racing is on alternating Saturday’s from June to August.

Our OTB fleet is supported by the RGYC Sailing Academy. Our Australian Sailing accredited Discover Sailing centre and instructors provide new sailors of all ages with the knowledge and skills required to become safe and competent sailors.

With the construction of the new RGYC Shared Use Facility now underway, our OTB fleet will soon have brand new storage and training facilities with which to grow and succeed from.

Classes Sailed

RGYC sails a mixture of junior and senior classes, with both class and mixed fleet racing on offer throughout the year.

  • Optimist
  • Cadet
  • 29er
  • WASZP
  • ILCA 4, 6 & 7
  • Fireball
  • Sabre
  • Contender
  • Moth

Our Tackers program and learn-to-sail courses for kids are completed in the Optimist before many of our younger sails move on to the International Cadet. RGYC has a proud and successful history of International Cadet training and racing. A great junior and youth class, our Cadet sailors progress from our Tackers programs, through the Cadets and on to more senior classes or keelboats.

Race Management & Volunteering

RGYC’s sailing program relies on the generosity of its hard-working and dedicated members and volunteers. If you are interested in giving back to your club and supporting our race programs, please check the information on our Volunteers page.
