The Royal Geelong Yacht Club is the Bronze Winner in the Major Festivals and Events category at this year’s Victorian Tourism Awards. RGYC would like to thank the Victorian Tourism Industry Council for recognising the great achievements of many organisations across the industry.

This prestigious award recognises the high quality of the Club’s huge Summer of Sailing during the 2019 / 2020 season. This program included the Cadet National Titles; Festival of Sails; the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 Oceania and World Championships; the Laser Masters Australian and Oceania Championship; and the Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong.

In his Commodore’s Message today, Stuart Dickson acknowledge the hard work of those involved. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Immediate Past Commodore John Kint for his hard work over the past 3 years, the RGYC Board, Members, Volunteers and Staff who have as a team contributed significantly that has culminated in our club receiving this extremely significant award.”

“I would also like to thank our major stakeholders being the Victorian State Government, the City of Greater Geelong and our Sponsors, again none of this would be possible without your continued support.”

This award is a great reward for all of us. Importantly, it is also a stimulus and motivation for our club to continue with the implementation of the Geelong Waterfront Precinct Masterplan that will deliver world class facilities. This will enable us to continue to conduct World Class Events on the magnificent sailing waters of Corio Bay and attract many visitors to the Geelong & Bellarine region from across the state, our nation and the world well into the future.

Past winners of the Victorian Tourism Awards Major Festivals and Events category include the Australian Open, Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and the Melbourne Cup.
