Dear Members,

I advise that last evening the RGYC Board resolved to suspend all club operations from 4.00pm TODAY, Wednesday 18 March 2020.

As every member will be aware, the world is in unprecedented conditions and in sailing terms, unchartered waters. The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak is continuing its rapid spread and Governments are escalating risk mitigation strategies in an endeavour to stop the spread.

As a nation and a local community we must minimise social gatherings and minimise the risk of worsening the spread of the virus throughout the community.

Accordingly, the Board is determined to not organise or facilitate events, activities or functions, either formally or informally, that require people to congregate in any manner, thereby limiting any opportunity to contract or pass on the virus. The Board acknowledges its duty to act in the best interests of members and staff at all times.

I advise that all club activity will be suspended, effective from 4.00pm Wednesday 18 March 2020 until further notice. The Board will constantly monitor the situation, including weekly formal reviews.

To clarify, the suspension includes, but is not limited to:

  • Learn to Sail and Junior Coaching Programs
  • Victorian Sailing School Programs
  • Sailability Program
  • Club Racing Alpha and Bravo
  • Marina View Cafe
  • Members’ Bar
  • Functions, both member and visitor
  • RGYC Additional Facilities (eg. Soos’ Bar)
  • RGYC Club House – No Access
  • Visiting Groups

The Off The Beach Clubhouse showers and toilets will remain accessible.

Yard operations and boat maintenance contractors will continue until further advised and as long as their operations continue to be compliant with Government guidelines and legislation.

Marina Access is to be maintained. Members can access boats and sail under own initiative. State, Federal and Club hygiene guidance and gathering restrictions apply.

Access and Communications

  • No access to RGYC Clubhouse
  • Access to the Marina is strictly via the East Gate
  • Communication with administration staff will be conducted electronically and by phone

Staff

Non essential staff will be requested to take their leave entitlements. Work from home operations will be put in place.

These are historical and life threatening times. I implore members to focus on your health and well-being and that of your loved ones and our broader community. The Board will continue to keep members informed throughout this ordeal as we, as a club, do what we can and must do to slow community outbreaks and to protect and support the most vulnerable people.
