Adult Keelboat Courses

Learn the basics of keelboat sailing on one of our awesome RS21s (image below). Ideal for learning with up to 4 others, these are responsive, fun boats that can be sailed like a dinghy but with the stability of a keel – no capsizing on these! Run by an Australian Sailing-qualified keelboat instructor, our level 1 course will get you sailing and knowing your way around the boat. Our level 2 course builds on that knowledge and introduces more helming (steering) and is also suitable for those who have done some sailing but want to learn more.

Adult Keelboat
Level 1

Four sessions, Tuesdays 5.30pm to 8.30pm or Sundays 9am to 12pm.

Learn how keelboats really work as part of a team. You’ll get hands-on with sails, ropes and manoeuvres, and start feeling comfortable and useful as crew straight away.

Experience you’ll have:
✔ Crew roles and on-water communication
✔ Hoisting and lowering sails
✔ Trimming sails for speed and control
✔ Tacking and gybing as a team
✔ Safety basics and good seamanship

Course length: 12 hours over 4 sessions

Adult Keelboat
Level 2

Ready to take the helm? Keelboat Level 2 is where you step up, learn to steer with confidence, and make the boat go where you want it to, smoothly and safely.

Experience you’ll hearn:
✔ Confident steering and boat handling
✔ Smooth tacks and gybes from the helm
✔ Boat balance, speed control, and trim awareness
✔ Sailing to a plan (not just reacting)
✔ Building confidence in bigger conditions
