The Women’s Helm Series launched with flair on Sunday, November 10th, as 11 boats took to the water for the first race of this inspiring series. On a stunning sunny day with a gentle breeze of 8-10 knots, Wangim Walk offered spectators a fantastic view of the exciting start. Despite lighter winds between CB2 and CB5, the fleet navigated skilfully, showcasing a mix of experienced sailors and newcomers rising to the challenge.
In the results, Vicki Groves on Valient claimed first place, impressively recovering from a potential OCS at the start. Helen Wallace, supported by Keryn Levick aboard Kestrel (a past series-winning team), took second place, while Georgia Delaney on Extasea secured third, along with Line Honours. A special mention goes to Cadet sailor Lucy Stephens, who achieved an impressive fourth place while sailing with her father Peter and brother Charlie.
The success of Race 1 wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of the boat owners, skippers, and crews. Their commitment provided a platform for developing skills, building confidence, and fostering unity across the Club.
Looking ahead, the excitement continues with Race 2 of the Women’s Helm Series this Sunday, December 1st. Whether you’re participating or spectating, it’s a fantastic opportunity to support and celebrate the talent and determination of our female sailors.
Come down, cheer on the fleet, and be part of this empowering series!
