The Royal Geelong Yacht Club was proudly represented by three Etchells at the 2024-2025 Australian Championship, held at the Metung Yacht Club from November 1-5, 2024. The event saw intense competition, with a fleet of top-tier sailors showcasing their skills in the idyllic yet challenging conditions of Lake King.

Among the RGYC contingent, Tiger (N. Abbott, C. Manton, R. Hagebols) achieved an impressive 7th place, while Smoking Gun (N. Gunner, A. McRae, I. Farnell, T. Davis) secured 9th place. Matilda (B. Robertson, T. Kelly, W. Kelly) rounded out the Club’s entries with a commendable 18th place.

This year’s championship offered plenty of drama and tactical sailing, with defending champion Graeme Taylor and his crew on Magpie clinching the title in a thrilling finish. For the RGYC fleet, the event provided valuable experience and an opportunity to compete at a national level against some of the best Etchells sailors in Australia.

Looking ahead, the Geelong Etchells fleet continues to grow in strength and numbers. RGYC is proud to have several boats set to compete at the prestigious Etchells World Championship, taking place in Brighton from January 10–14, 2025.

Best of luck to our Etchells sailors as they prepare to take on the world stage and continue to fly the RGYC flag high!
