Congratulations to Jake Newman for finishing 4th in the inaugural RORC Baltic Sea Race. The race of approximately 630 nautical miles was started and finished off Helsinki, in the Gulf of Finland. The course incorporated the Swedish Island of Gotland, located approximately 250nm southwest of Helsinki.

Jake was the only Aussie in the very international crew, which included English, American, Lithuanian and Norwegian sailors on Amber Sail, a Volvo 65. They finished a credible 4th over the line. With only 15NM to go they were leading the race but flukey winds cost them in the end.

If that wasn’t enough, Jake, along with Tim Davis, last week competed in the Sydney to Gold Coast race on the TP52, Smuggler. Well done Jake and Tim, we are very pleased to have you representing our club at the elite level.

Over 200 sailors from 18 different nations raced in the inaugural Roschier Baltic Sea Race – the new 635-mile race starting and finishing in Helsinki, Finland and organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) in association with the Ocean Racing Alliance. Teams from Poland, Germany, Sweden and Finland won honours in the race, with a fairy tale overall victory for the smallest boat in the race.

RGYC Member Jake Newman competed in the RORC Baltic Sea Race aboard the Volvo 65, Amber Sail.
